Director of Software Engineering – Defence & Augmented Reality

About the Role:

As the Director of Software Engineering, you will lead a team of 20 software engineers across three locations, driving innovation and ensuring the successful development of the company’s premier AR products. Reporting to senior leadership, you will play a pivotal role in product strategy, stakeholder communication, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of the company’s flagship products and new software initiatives.
• Manage and mentor a geographically distributed team of engineers, fostering collaboration and growth.
• Conduct code reviews and challenge engineers to maintain top-quality software standards.
• Drive strategic roadmapping and ensure products are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
• Act as a key liaison for stakeholders, including defense customers, investors, and partners.

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

• U.S. Citizenship (required for security clearance).
• 6+ years of hands-on experience with C++ development.
• Proven leadership experience managing teams of 10+ engineers.
• Strong experience with Linux systems.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and CI/CD methodologies.
• Excellent communication skills for both internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred:

• Background in defense, weapons systems, AR/VR, or aerospace technology.
• Master’s degree in a STEM field.
• Understanding of military/defense standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO/IEC 12207).
